Big East Football Preview - Jerry Lambert 8/27/2009

Big East College Football Preview by Jerry Lambert

Welcome to another exciting College Football
season and we here at Great Lakes Sports will give
our Big East predictions this preseason on who we
think will win the Big East Title for the 2009-2010
season, and as always good luck this season from
Great Lakes Sports.

Pittsburgh – The Panthers return eight starters back
of offense and seven starters back on defense from
a squad that went a very respectable 9-4 last year.
The Panthers did lose top rusher LeSean McCoy
who rushed for 1,488 yards with twenty one
touchdowns but are led by QB Bill Stull who threw
for 2,356 yards last year and with almost everyone
back on the offensive line the Panthers should have
no trouble putting points on the score board this
season. The Pitt Panthers also have a pretty soft
schedule with home games against Youngstown
State, U Conn, and Cincinnati, and road games with
Buffalo, and NC State we here at Great Lakes Sports
look for the Pittsburgh Panthers to win as many as
ten games this season along with the Big East
Championship.

West Virginia- The Mountaineers only return five
starters back on offense and seven starters back on
defense from last year’s 9-4 team, and they did
lose the QB Pat White to the NFL but don’t worry
Mountaineer fans there is light at the end of the
tunnel. The Mountaineers do have a very soft non-
conference schedule with Liberty, East Carolina, and
Marshall, and with home games against Colorado, U
Conn, and Pittsburgh the Panthers will win between
eight or nine games this season. We look for the
West Virginia Mountaineers to end up in second
place in the Big East Conference with a New Years
Day bowl berth on the horizon.

Rutgers- The Rutgers Scarlet Knights return 13
starters from a team that went 8-5 last year (7
Offense, 6 Defense). The Scarlet Knights did lose
their top QB in Mike Teel who threw for 3,418 yards
with a 25-13 ratio, and their top WR Kenny Britt
1,371 yards with seven touchdowns. Rutgers have
tough road games with Maryland, U Conn, and
Louisville but we here at Great Lakes Sports look for
the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to finish in third place
in the Big East Conference and end up with another
bowl berth this season for the fifth consecutive
season.

South Florida- This could be South Florida’s best
team in quite sometime as the Bulls return six
starters on offense, and six starters back on
defense from last years squad that went 8-5. The
Bulls did have some depth last year especially on
the offensive side of the ball. South Florida is led by
senior QB Matt Groth who threw for 2,911 yards
with eighteen touchdowns. The problem with South
Florida this year will be tough road games with
Florida State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and U Conn. We
look for a possible bowl berth for now we look for
a fourth place finish for South Florida in this Big
East Conference.

Cincinnati- The Bearcats could be the sleeper in
this division as they have eight offensive starters
returning but only have one starter back on defense
which could be a problem with no depth on
defense. The Bearcats are led by senior QB Tony
Pike who three for 2,407 yards with nineteen
touchdowns but with tough games against Rutgers,
Oregon State, South Florida, West Virginia and
Pittsburgh we here at Great Lakes Sports look for
the Cincinnati Bearcats to finish in fifth place with a
possible bowl berth.

Louisville – The Louisville Cardinals do have most of
the skill position players back from a team that
went 5-7 last year, but lost their QB in Hunter
Cantwell this could be a long season for the
Louisville Cardinals. The Cardinals return seven
offensive starters, and six defensive starters, and
the Louisville Cardinals are led by Sophomore RB
Victor Anderson who rushed for 1,047 yards with
eight touch downs. We look for the Louisville
Cardinals to finish in sixth place in the Big East
Conference with their tough schedule with road
games against Kentucky, Utah, West Virginia, and
South Florida.

Connecticut- The Huskies return six starters back
on offense, and six starters back on defense for last
years 8-5 squad. The U Conn Huskies are very
young, and will need time to gel in this Big East
Conference, and with tough games against North
Carolina, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and Cincinnati
this will be a rebuilding year for the Huskies as we
will call for a seventh place finish for the
Connecticut Huskies in this Big East Conference.

Syracuse- The Syracuse Orange will be an improve
team this year, but it will take another year or two
before the Syracuse Orange get out of the cellar in
this Big East Conference. The Syracuse Orange
return seven starters on offense, and seven starters
back from last year team the went a dismal 3-9.
The Orange first year head coach Doug Marrone will
have is hands full this year but he does have the
respect from his players so their will be 100%
maximum effort for the first year head coach. The
Orange also has a tough schedule against Big Ten
opponents Minnesota, Penn State, and
Northwestern along with their conference schedule.
We here at Great Lakes Sports look for the Syracuse
Orange to finish with four or five wins this year, and
finis in eighth place in this Big East Conference.

This is Great Lakes Sports Big East Conference
Preview for the 2009-2010 seasons, and as always
Good Luck from Great Lakes Sports.
