March Madness Handicapping - Jerry Lambert 3/17/2009

Here we go with another exciting March in the
world of College Basketball, as this is my favorite
time of year when the smaller less notable schools
will have a chance to knock off the more high
profile schools, and every year their will be a
Cinderella team in this year field with this year will
be the same as always. The entire country that
follow College Basketball have watched selection
shows last Sunday, and are trying to get as much
information as possible when they fill out their
office pools in hopes to find that dark horse or
upset to put them over the top. We here at Great
Lakes Sports will give you a prediction between a
number 12 seed vs a number 5 seed, and almost
every year a number 12 seed has beaten a number
five seed. This year we will look at the number 12
seed Western Kentucky Hilltoppers to upset the
number 5 seed Illinois Fighting Illini. The
Hilltoppers are led by junior guard AJ Slaughter
(15.8ppg), and with the Western Kentucky
Hilltoppers peaking at the right time winning seven
in a row, and winning the Sun Belt Conference
Tournament. The Hilltoppers have a very
respectable 24-8 record after a solid 64-56 victor
over South Alabama for the conference
championship. The Illinois Fighting Illini have lost
three out of the four games including a 66-56 lost
in the semi finals to the Purdue Boilermakers. The
Western Kentucky do like the play the half court
game much, and keep the score in the upper 50’s
to lower 60’s which will be the Achilles heel of the
Fighting Illini who likes to play the up-tempo style
of basketball. This will be a very exciting College
Basketball Tournament with no clear cut favorite
this year, and as always Great Lakes Sports wishes
you good luck, and hopes that you will have a very
successful College Basketball Tournament.
